What is a Dental Appliance?

Maintaining good oral health is more than just brushing and flossing. For those who play sports, who clench or grind their teeth at night, or those who snore or have sleep apnea, a dental appliance can help preserve and protect your oral structures. In turn, this can help improve your overall health and wellbeing.

At Cranbrook Family Dental, we offer custom-made sports and night guards, as well as snoring and sleep apnea appliances that can be used to help protect your oral cavity.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep disorders can prevent you from getting a good night's rest, which will negatively impact your everyday life.

When someone snores, their throat tissues relax and can cause the airway to restrict, which creates the snoring sound as oxygen is forced past.

If a patient has sleep apnea, their throat tissues over-relax, and actually end up obstructing the airway, which forces the brain to wake them up so they can breathe.

At Cranbrook Family Dental, we provide custom-fitted oral appliances designed to move the lower jaw and tongue muscles to open the airway. This helps improve airflow and helps stop you from waking up throughout the night.

Custom-Made Mouth Guards

Our dentists offer custom-made mouth guards designed to fit snugly over your teeth, offering optimal protection.

Sports Guards

If you get hit in the mouth during a sporting activity, a mouth guard can provide a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth to protect your teeth and mouth from injuries.

Night Guards

If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a mouth guard will help protect your mouth from damage. If you clench your jaw, a mouth guard will help prevent this while also providing some pain relief.
